Danny Sullivan indicated during a discussion on Twitter about infinite scroll that Google is testing the "More results" feature in mobile SERPs even more widely than before . Indeed, the historical pagination with 10 results per page may seem totally outdated when we see the not insignificant comfort of infinite scrolling and trigger pagination (of the "more results" type precisely), so it is quite natural that Google is looking into the issue.
We've been testing that and trying it with more people now.

Google has already tested this feature before on a few off page seo service thousand people, and on predefined topics (fashion in particular). Now, the test is being extended to many users but also to all themes. Should we see this as a good sign that would (finally) allow us to hope for a move towards this type of pagination? Nothing is less certain, but users are on the right track...
Show more results on mobile with Google, without pagination
For Google, the question of infinite scrolling or by trigger has no major technical impact , except that it is necessary to load the pages with Ajax or Promises in Javascript. On the other hand, Google's historical pagination is a great advantage for managing Adwords ads , by offering "x" paid results per page. With continuous pagination, it is therefore necessary to rethink the model to always display sponsored links, while not harming user comfort too much. Add to that the fact that pagination of this type can lead users to look at more than the first 10 results (hence the desire of users to opt for this system), and therefore lower Adwords bids somewhat accordingly (we would no longer pay to be on the first page as we do now...). We will therefore see if these full-scale tests bear fruit, and if Google Adwords will find a profitable solution to this infinite pagination.
